How A Slot Machine Works
You'll be amazed at how some people play slot machines. Much of what others do to slot machines or how they play slot machines have to do with misconceptions about how a slot machine works. Some people heat up coins using a lighter before putting them in the coin slot, others only use ice-cold coins, still there are those who would whack a slot machine first before pulling the lever.
Much of these odd behaviors could be done away with if only these people would know how a slot machine really works. We'll take time to discuss how slot machines today work. We'll pay special attention to how slot machines of today pick out combinations that will come up on the screen. Once you understand how a slot machine really works, there won't be a need to whack the poor machine every time you pull the lever.
When we take a look inside each slot machine, it would pretty much resemble the electronic devices we use today. Every slot machine on the casino floor is equipped with a chip that contains a program that is called a random number generator. At times, that chip's main function is to run the RNG (i.e. random number generator). The rest of the parts of the slot machine don't have anything to do with generating the visual combinations of symbols on the screen.
Some parts of the slot machines of today are mechanical too, like the lever or the coin slot. There are no temperature sensors on the lever or on the slot machine's coin slot. So there's no sense of in using a hot or cold coin on a slot machine before you get to actually play.
There is also no connection between the coin slot or other mechanical parts of the slot machine with the random number generator. That chip will just keep on generating a random set of symbols every millisecond. As soon as you pull the lever or press the play button the random number generator is accessed and it displays the combination it made at that exact time.
The slot machine has no memory in it. It doesn't have a clue whether you've had a winning streak or not. The slot machine can't even tell if you've been playing the game for eight hours or there was already a series of different players playing.
One question that comes up with random number generators is that can we track the pattern used by a slot machine? The answer is no. Random number generators have been tested to generate purely random sequences without any distinct pattern. All it is when one player wins is pure luck.
Understanding how random number generators work and how it produces the winning combinations on a slot machine help us get over the myths that have come up.
